RUSAL launches $19.8 mln rolling mill at Kandalaksha smelter

MOSCOW, Mar 28 (PRIME) -- Russian aluminum giant UC RUSAL has launched a U.S. $19.8 million rolling mill Properzi at the Kandalaksha aluminum smelter which will produce up to 50,000 tonnes of value-added products, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The facility will produce different types of rolled steel with diameters of 9.5–25 millimeters. Before the launch of the new mill, the smelter produced only 9 milliliter rolled products.

“The launch of the rolling mill at Kandalaksha aluminum smelter is another step within RUSAL’s strategy to increase the output of value added products. According to plans, the smelter will start operating at full production capacity in 2017 having increased the production of the smelter up to 72,500 tonnes per year; with that, value-added products are to comprise 98.5% of the total amount of output,” the company said citing CEO Vladislav Solovyov.
